For the many travelers who list Italy as their favorite destination, give Sicily some consideration. Although part of Italy since 1860, the Sicilians still consider themselves a separate and "better" place to be. As they proclaim, their food & wine is superior to Italy, their ancient temple ruins far surpass Greece and their coastal villages and towns more charming than France.
Sicily is the ideal spot for a driving tour either on your own, with a car & driver or on a small group departure such as Travcoa's "Splendors of Sicily". Fly into Palermo on the north western Mediterranean coast, a city whose culture was influenced by the Byzantines, Arabs and Normans. Then proceed south along the coast to Agrigento for the ancient temples and a visit to a villa that features some of the finest mosaics in the Roman world.
View from The Verdura Resort
Cross the island eastward to Siracusa, then up the coast to Taormina which was called a "strip of paradise" by German poet Goethe. Along the way, visit 5th century BC Greco theatres as well as a funicular ride to the top of Mount Etna, Europe's tallest active volcano. Fly home from Catania on the eastern Mediterranean coast.
Reid Travel can make all the arrangements for your exploration of Sicily customized to your needs. We have great hotels in our Signature Collection!

Brazil Hot Spots
If you are thinking of visiting Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, there are two gems you must visit in this area of South America.
East of Rio is Buzios, Brazil. This very tranquil yet very sophisticated fishing village has beautiful beaches, rated among the top 10 beaches in the world. If you go, stay at the Vila d'este (no relation to Italy's property). It's great for people wanting less hustle & bustle of the big city of Rio, yet close enough that you can go into and enjoy the city by day, then return to peace and quiet at night.
Southwest of Rio is Paraty, Brazil. Established 1667, it is loaded with colonial history and museums and is a historical center of Brazil. If you venture to this picture postcard spot, stay at the Casa Turquesa. It has only 9 rooms and all the creature comforts of home. Once again amazing beaches and all rooms have and full view of the bay.
